walk and talk therapy and counseling lauren drago therapist counselor old saybrook, ct

Fresh air and movement can help clients find symptom relief, release healthy endorphins, and comfortably explore their thoughts, feelings, and goals. Read below to find out more about Walk and Talk Therapy, how it might help you, and how to get started.

What Can Walk and Talk Therapy Help With?

  • Walking and talking can help take care of your physical, mental, and emotional self simultaneously.

  • Movement while processing struggles or life situations can be meditative.

  • Research suggests that exercise can decrease anxiety and stress while improving mood.

  • Being in motion can prompt your brain to enter new thought patterns about old difficulties.

Who Does Well with Walk and Talk Therapy?

  • Almost anyone! All clients for whom it is medically safe to walk at any pace, established by you.

  • Walk and talk therapy can be particularly helpful for clients who are facing life transition, anxiety, and/or a loss of any kind.

  • You need not be concerned with your level of physical fitness or weight. If you can walk, we can do it. Our sessions are a judgment-free zone that are focused solely on your body moving forward while your therapy progress moves forward at the same time.

How Does It Work?

  • All sessions are 50 minutes. We depart on foot from my office and walk along the nearby waterfront.

  • You need only comfortable and appropriate walking shoes and socks. Layers can be helpful to account for variable temperatures near the water.

  • If weather is bad, or you are not feeling up to the activity that day, we can simply stay in my office for our session.
